The Warm Welcome Firewood talisman came into being during my second pilgrimage climbing up Sri Pada (Adam’s Peak). Sri Pada is the sacred mountain that inspired MYOUR WORLD and this entire talisman labor of Love! If are not already familiar with my story and the sacredness of this mountain, you can read about it on the page connected with TALISMAN #2.
At one point, during my second climb of Sri Pada sacred mountain, I all of a sudden, got really tired and really cold (It can get really cold towards the top of this mountain). The first time I hiked up I had had one of the most exhilarating and profound experiences of my life. This second hike felt more down to earth. Still connected to the mysticism of the mountain, but more connected with its earthly elements.
When I got to about three quarters up, the climate suddenly changed drastically. It suddenly got cold. Very cold. And for some strange reason, at about the same time, I also started to feel the tiredness of it being 4:30am and still not having slept.
I could only think of one thing to do: pray to the Mountain. And so I did. I asked the mountain to help me and to give me courage to continue. It did not take long to confirm that the Mountain was alive and warm-hearted. Only a few minutes later appeared the next rest-stop. This is not so unusual since we find tea shops all along the hike, every few hundred steps. What was unusual is that this tea shop had a most welcomed little but blazing fire.
The owner welcomed me with an equally warm smile. He felt strangely familiar. As I sat by the fire, he quickly brought me a giant cup of freshly brewed strong hot coffee. This was also rather unusual since they normally serve tea. Even more so because I don’t normally drink coffee, but it was just what I needed in that moment. It all felt so cozy and welcoming. It felt like being in a lodge cabin out in the woods with family and friends. Moments later I was brought a plate of warm sweet delicious dessert that I had never seen before in Sri Lanka. Again, how did he know it was just what I needed.
As I sat there in awe and gratitude, I decided to take a piece of the wood that was burning in front of me. I wanted to share this feeling with the world. I wanted everyone who feels alone and abandoned to experience this feeling of being warmly welcomed and taken care of, and this would be the talisman that would help invoke just that.
When I noticed that he was selling mittens, I bought two pairs. One for my feet and the other for my hands. I thanked the man as well as the mountain. I was only 20 minutes later, but I felt like a whole new person. I was now ready continue my hike to my beloved summit.
