The present Arahant Upagutta Shrine in Penang, Malaysia, is said to be the only Arahant Upagutta shrine existing outside the homeland, Myanmar. The name Upagutta means “protected.”
The Upaguta Book talisman has the power to protect you from falling into the trap of false spirituality. (Either by being tricked by someone, some community, organization, or by your own spiritual bypassing in which your ego tricks you into using spiritual practice as an excuse to stay comfortable and to avoid facing your fears and to use spirituality for your own selfish interests and for your own ego and for feeling superior to others.)
This talisman is from the oldest Burmese Buddhist temple in Malaysia. The presence of Buddha that I felt in this temple was unlike any I had previously experienced. The Buddha felt more gentle in an unusually feminine kind of way. Definitely a greater emphasis on the feminine energy that I had previously experienced. I have never been to Myanmar (Burma) and so cannot really know if this is a general nuance of Buddhism in Myanmar.
It was at this temple that I came into contact with Upagutta for the first time. Upagutta is the Bodhisattva that can help defend against Mara: an evil person who can create himself as the Buddha himself in order to trick someone. In essence, Ego, transforming itself into false spirituality in order to trick you into something that essentially will bring about more suffering into your life instead of more awareness. This is more common that is usually acknowledged. It may even be one of the most manipulative and difficult to decipher human experiences: how to know when something is truly the right thing for us and not just a trap of the ego. We all can use the grace and guidance of Upagutta and I am grateful to be able to know how I can call upon when I need such guidance.
This talisman will help you do the same.
The story of how it came about who would be the first person to launch this Upagutta Book Talisman is a testament to the powerful guidance of Upagutta Himself. It became clear while I was swimming in the INDIAN OCEAN in Sri Lanka with someone I had only met earlier that day. He was interested in the MYOUR PROJECT and was interested in having one of the talismans. While we were in the ocean, I asked him to tell me something that he thought he needed guidance and help with in his life. After he had shared a few things, it quickly became clear that, of the 70 possible talismans I currently had with me, the Upagutta Book was the right one for him.
Moments later, we went to retrieve the talisman and decided that we would read the book together.
Even before starting, I knew that I would want to hi-light a few things in the book. But where to instantly find a yellow hi-lighter in a Sri Lankan village. I asked the owner of the guesthouse if she perhaps had one. She could not even what I wanted. Somehow, within a few moments I looked on the floor and there I found not one, but a rainbow of every color hi-ligher I could imagine.
We started reading the book together and right there on the first page of the forward, we were to learned “a widely-acknowledged belief is the Arahant… has his abode in the Indian Ocean. …Upagutta is (still)… living in the (Indian) ocean!
It is my belief that one does not choose the talisman, but that the talisman chooses you. How very auspicious that when deciding which talisman would be the correct one for this person, we “chose” Upagutta while swimming in his abode.
The Upagutta Book talisman, has the power, by the grace and blessings of Upagutta, to utterly destroy all troubles, diseases, dangers and obstacles; to prevent all illness, diseases and accidents; to prevent and destroy all sorrows and dangers involving the government; and to utterly destroy all obstacles, troubles and diseases devised and caused by the Evil One.
Regardless that “there is now and also in the past a great deal of speculation and debate as to whether Upagutta is still living or not or whether he ever lived at all,” the energy of Upagutta is not only alive and strong, but is much needed and lives through this sacred talisman.
