Pidurangala Sigiriya Rajamaha Viharaya (The Ancient Buddhist Monastary Of Pidurangala) also known as The Pidurangala Cave Temple Complex is a giant rock temple built in 5th century ACE for 500 meditating monks.

It is believed that this giant rock is the younger brother of the other rock that stands beside it.  Whereas this younger brother rock is the place of a humble monastery, the other giant rock  is the world renowned Sigiriya Rock Fortress and King’s Palace Complex.

Pidurangala has been referred to as Sigiriya’s younger brother with an inferiority complex.  It is as though this rock mountain is perpetually overshadowed by his magisterial older brother.

As such, Pidurangala Rock Monastery has the power to help anyone who feels inferior to his older brother so that they can finally “come out of the shadows” and into their own true light.

Here’s a FACT: feelings of inferiority come from feelings and not from facts and so the most direct way to change your inferiority complex is to change your feelings. The main problem is that an aspect of who you think you are comes from comparing yourself to someone else. And here’s another fact: comparing yourself to someone else to someone else in order to determine who is better or worse is never a good idea, merely because it will point you to an incorrect reality. The fact is that you are unique and are not supposed to be like anyone else. You are not supposed to be better or worse than your brother, your sister, your mother, your father, or anyone else for that matter. Furthermore, it is detrimental to your mental health to try to live up to someone else’s standards. The only person you are supposed to be is yourself and the only beneficial standards are those that will help grow your true authentic self.

Once you really believe this and accept accept it, you will have a switch in consciousness that will allow you to let go of an old assumption that you may have been carrying from childhood.

So what does an older brother have to do with all of this? The reason it is so common to have an “older brother inferiority complex” to begin with is because every human being is very impressionable as a young child. The closer someone is to you, the larger the impression they can have on you. While growing up, your older brother (especially if he is not considerably older than your are, and especially if he is the first born child) may very well be both the person who is closer to you as well as the person you may look up to the most.

In an ideal world, all older brothers would feel completely confident about themselves and so would be able to support their younger brothers while growing up. The sad reality is that most kids have insecurities. And so when an older brother has an insecurity, then it is easy for them to boost their ego by picking on and being mean towards their younger brother. The mere fact that they are older will most often mean that they will be bigger, stronger, wittier and sometimes smarter). They have inevitable a power advantage and they can choose to exercise this power in an unfair negative way. This inevitably leaves a lasting impression on the younger brother who is looking up to their older brother. The result is that it leaves a sense of being crushed. By the time the younger brother is old enough to, in a sense, “catch up” to the older brother (physically and intellectually), it is already too late. The inferiority complex has already solidified.

The good news is that as an adult, we can re-visit our insecurities and identify where they have come from. We can make the realization that we carrying incorrect assumptions and we can slowly re-align our beliefs with the truth of who we really are.

Even better news is if there would be a talisman to help with this very issue.
