TALISMAN #62: SRI PADA MOUNTAIN TEMPLE ROCK

The Sri Pada Mountain Temple Rock has the power to grant the spiritual benefits that are usually granted from walking the 5200 steps up the sacred Sri Pada Mountain to the temple at the very top. Millions of people take on the pilgrimage every year and everyone connects and is helped in their own unique way. So will be the case for whomever is gifted this talisman.

Sri Pada (also known as Adam’s Peak and Butterfly Mountain) is believed to be a sacred mountain in Sri Lanka where mysticism and mysteries intersect. Although different traditions interpret the power of this mountain in different ways, they all agree that it is one of the most sacred, magical and powerful places on earth. It is also believed by many to be the closest point to paradise.  You can read the story of my transformational pilgramage up this mountain on the page connected to Talisman #2.

Sri Pada Mountain with Temple.

Sri Pada Mountain’s (Adam’s Peak) temple dedicated to the auspicious footprint of Lord Buddha (or Lord Shiva, or Adam, or St. Thomas).

My all night pilgrimage, climbing up the 5200 steps leading to the top of this sacred mountain, is the journey that inspired The Talisman Challenge and this entire website.

At the top of this mountain is a sacred temple. The rock that I took once I reached the top is not an actual piece of Sri Pada Mountain, but a piece of the new temple floor that was going to be inaugurated just a few days later.

This had been my second time climbing this mountain.  It is an interesting synchronicity (meaningful coincidence) that the first time was just a few days after the new temple bell and temple floor had been brought up by helicopter.  My second climb (unknowingly at the time) was just a few days before their official inauguration.  This provided the opportunity that there were still a few loose pieces of the new temple floor lying around.  When I asked a temple monk if I could have something connected with the energy of this sacred mountain top temple, he offered a piece of the new temple floor.

This talisman could very well be one of the most powerful talisman on this site.  It has the energy of the sacred temple at the top of this auspicious mountain. It also has the energy of new beginning, since it is a piece of the new temple floor.  As many as 250,000 pilgrims make their way to the top per month.  It seems like everyone at one point has been compelled to climb this mountain.  The young are often seen assisting their elder and frail parents or grandparents make the climb.  The devotion is contagious.  Not everyone agrees on who the sacred footprint at the top of the mountain belongs to (Lord Buddha, Lord Shiva, Adam, St. Thomas), but everyone agrees that the struggle it takes to climb up is well worth the gift and grace of having their prayers answered.

May this talisman help bring some of the power of this sacred temple at the top of this sacred mountain into your life.  May your prayers be answered.

Here is a rather long video (almost 40 minutes), that I found of Youtube, of Sri Pada Mountain (Adam’s Peak).  It is in Sinhala language and is certainly not necessary to watch it all.   Instead, I suggest you scroll through parts of it in order to view how they transport the new bell to the top of the mountain by helicopter.  This allows for some stunning aerial views of this magical mountain and the sacred temple at its summit.  Then towards the end of the video we see the actual ceremony that I talk about on this page.  The president can be seen flying over the mountain summit as he inaugurates the new Temple Tower by showering petals from the helicopter.
