The Malaysian rainforest is believed to be the oldest on Earth (estimated to be more than 130 MILLION YEARS OLD! I had the privilege of spending some time, not only in this amazing rainforest, but amongst an Indigenous Malaysian Tribe that live right in it.
I had to hike for one hour, away from the closest road, into the rain-forest in order to reach the Liak Village.
The Temiar people are one of the largest of the 19 Orang Alsi (indigenous/original people) tribes of Malaysia. They are traditionally animists, giving great significance to nature, dreams and spiritual healing.
The Balot plant is traditionally used to effectively seal and stop the bleeding if applied to a relatively minor cut shortly after the injury has occurred. Of course, during my stay with this aboriginal tribe, I got to experience this phenomenon first hand.
You see, the houses are on stilts and the kitchen floor was made from narrow strips of bamboo, placed side by side with some space in between them.
Well, there happened to be a place where one of the planks was broken, and my leg just happened to go right though. Yes, I cut myself, but luckily the cuts were not very deep. It was the kids and the teenager who came to my rescue. One of the little boys went looking for a Balot leaves, knowing that when applied immediately, they help stop the bleeding.
It worked. I later found out that the energy of this plant goes beyond the physical and can be used to stop emotional bleeding as well.
