I really don’t think that it is a coincidence that right before I received my life changing inspiration for The Talisman Challenge I had been living at Amma’s ashram in India for one year.  I was happy there, but as most westerners have to do, at one point I had to leave India to renew my Visa.  Seven days is all it takes, and so I decided to go to the nearest country, Sri Lanka.  It was during my first few days in Sri Lanka, while I made my pilgrimage up the sacred Sri Pada Mountain that my life changed forever.  I received the vivid inspiration to create this site, and this entire Talisman Challenge.

Instead of going back to India, I was lead through a sacred journey across Sri Lanka, synchronistically meeting incredible people and magically being transported from one sacred site to another.  Six months later, I had collected tens of inspirational talismans, but my Sri Lankan visa was now also expiring.  Legally, I had to leave the country for at least 1 day in order to renew my visa.  I decided to fly to Malaysia.  It was close, inexpensive, and bureaucratically simple to fly in and out of Malaysia from Sri Lanka.   I had never been to Malaysia before, and the thought of going there did not inspire me very much.  I thought I would fly into the country only to fulfill my visa requirements and that I would be returning to magical Sri Lanka very quickly.

I ended up staying in Malaysia almost three months. The moment I arrived, the magic of the Talisman Challenge project swept over me and lead me from one inspirational and transformative experience to the next.  Before I knew it, I was even living deep in the jungle with several Indigenous tribes and being transmitted ancient and timeless wisdom from jungle Shamans and healers.

Because Malaysia has a huge Chinese community, it was also in Malaysia that I really discovered Chinese Taoist temples and got a first glimpse at some of their timeless and powerfully healing rituals.

But it was during one particularly magnificent day that I truly got a glimpse of how diverse Malaysia really is.  It was while I was on the enchanted island of Penang that discovered the oldest Burmese (Myamar) Buddhist temple in Malaysia.  It truly was a magnificent and inspiring temple. So much so, that more than one talisman was collected from my experiences there.  And if this was not enough, literally across the street was the equally beautiful, inspirational and powerfully Reclining Buddha Temple,  home to a 108 ft-long reclining Buddha, the third largest in the world.  Several more talismans were discovered at this temple.

Before I forget, it is important to mention that on my way to these two incredible temples, thatI knew where right across from each other, I got “mistakenly” discovered a Chinese Taoist Temple (thinking that it was one of the two temples I was searching for).   It was during the Chinese Taoist Hungry Ghost Month and so I was thrown into a Hungry Ghost ritual.  The Hungry Ghost Cigar Talisman resulted from this profound meditation.

You would think that this was enough for one day.  A Hungry Ghost ritual to help overcome addictions and bad habits, experiencing the ornately beautiful and transformative oldest Burmese Buddhist temple in Malaysia and then the equally ornate and mysteriously powerful Reclining Buddha Thai Temple.

Yes this should be enough for one day.  During my last 7 months collecting talismans, it was more than enough when I would experience something so powerful that it would result in a talisman.  During this day, I had already received six.  No other single day had created so many talismans.

But it turned out that all that magic was not enough.

As I was ready to close my day, and while walking to the bus stop, I looked up and saw a picture of Amma.  I could not believe that right in front of me was the Amma Center in Penang.  I was overwhelmed.  I felt like I had come full circle.  Like I had come home.  What a beautiful surprise and blessed reminder that Amma had been with me the entire time.

 

It seems like six talismans in one day were not enough, after all.  Thus is the power of Amma.  Amma pushes you beyond your perceived limitations.  Transmitted through the power of her embodied Unconditional Love, you come to know that you are never alone and all is truly possible.
